History
Four Generations with over 120 Years of Funeral Care and Compassion
The Finnegan family has been helping bereaved families for over 120 years. Mary Finnegan, Reen, Kenmare emigrated to Newburyport, Massachusetts, USA in 1884. Mary, her husband Edward Russell, (originally from Gortamullen, Kenmare) and their son Ed owned and managed Russell’s Funeral Homes in Springfield, Massachusetts.
In 1956 Mary’s nephew John P. Finnegan (in partnership with Dan O’ Brien-Corkery) established his undertaking business in Kenmare. John’s son Johnny Finnegan and his wife Maureen took over the business in 1978 and built a contemporary Funeral Home (with parking facilities and within easy walking distance from Kenmare town centre) on JP’s land at Springwell, Gortamullen, Kenmare.
They valued JP’s input until his death in 1993. In 1995 Maureen became one of the first qualified female Embalmers in Ireland. She is constantly updating her skills since then and is a full member of the British Institute of Embalmers.
The Finnegan family has a modern Embalming/Preparation facility in their Funeral Home, so that they can care for the deceased in a dignified manner and give them the respect they deserve as they prepare them for their final and important journey from this earth.
Their two sons Eoin & Brian are 4th generation Finnegans who are active, caring partners in the business.
